The weight loss surgeons at the New York Bariatric Group offer several types of bariatric surgery, namely, single-incision adjustable gastric banding (SILS), adjustable gastric banding with the Lap-Band or Realize Band, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic gastric bypass, revision bariatric surgery and additional options. They use the laparoscopic approach to surgery when medically appropriate. To start laparoscopic surgery, the New York Bariatric Group surgeon creates multiple small incisions in the abdominal region and inserts a device with a camera on the end of it. The camera supplies a video feed to a screen in the operating room that the surgeon watches to monitor surgical progress. The chief advantage of laparoscopic surgery is that it is less invasive than conventional surgical techniques, causing less trauma to tissues. This allows for a quicker recovery after the surgical procedure.
The FDA just approved the ReShape™ gastric balloon and the Orbera™ gastric balloon for use in the US, and they are now offered by New York Bariatric Group's Dr. Shawn Garber — is one of the first surgeons in the United States trained in these unique programs. These NON-SURGICAL procedures use what is referred to as a gastric balloon. By following the ReShape™ or Orbera™ Managed Weight Loss Programs, one can experience a weight loss of up 70lbs*. Please visit our sister site at bellyballoon.com for more information, or visit our office and consult with bariatric pioneer Shawn Garber, MD to see the unique "belly balloon", and to learn if one of these programs is right for you.

"It's not just about your weight, it's about your health and your family too. Dr. Garber's team was wonderful. After I lost the weight, I was able to reduce my blood pressure medication by 2/3 and eliminate the medication for type 2 diabetes. I'm a different person now, a happier person and it's all thanks to what this surgery has done for me. When I get compliments, I think to myself, are they talking to me? And they ARE talking to me! It's been four years since my surgery, and not only am I maintaining the weight loss, I'm still attending the support groups that Dr. Garber provides because they are beneficial to me. Shopping is the best thing now, I've even bought a 2 piece bathing suit!" Dawn
"I was downtown on 9/11 and couldn't run to save my life. My co-workers had to help me. Since I've lost the weight, people finally notice me. I love to buy new clothes and walking down the street is a pleasure, I finally get noticed and get attention that I had wanted for so many years." Cindy
"I was always an outcast. I would hide behind my weight through my personality. My life is totally different post surgery. I can breathe now. It's so much easier to do everything such as shop and exercise. I can fit in one airplane seat now and even ride rollercoasters! I love being able to go into a regular store and know that my size will be on the rack. I also have so much more energy. I think Dr Garber and Dr Holover are two very skilled and talented surgeons. They both have a wonderful bedside manner. Consider yourself lucky to have them operate on you! The staff are always very sensitive to my needs. They are always accommodating and understanding!"
