Jon Pirrello, MD, FACS, FASMBS, and David Voellinger, MD, FACS, FASMBS, medical director of the Presbyterian Bariatric Center, are board-certified surgeons offering a range of weight loss procedures to patients. Drs. Pirrello and Voellinger have helped improve the quality of life of many people who once struggled with obesity. They offer safe and effective surgical procedures to initiate significant weight loss. The entire team at Presbyterian Bariatric Center in Charlotte is happy to work with patients during this pivotal point in their lives. For more information about Presbyterian Bariatric Center, please explore their website.
Drs. Pirrello and Voellinger are skilled in a variety of bariatric surgery procedures, including gastric bypass, gastric sleeve (vertical sleeve gastrectomy), biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch and adjustable gastric banding with the REALIZE™ Band or Lap-Band®. Dr. Pirrello also offers the Fobi band procedure as well.
When medically appropriate, Drs. Pirrello and Voellinger use laparoscopic techniques, which are less invasive than traditional open surgery. The great majority of procedures that the surgeons perform are able to be completed laparoscopically. Laparoscopic techniques involve the use of a camera and small instruments that are inserted into the body through a few small incisions. Patients who undergo laparoscopic procedures experience less tissue trauma and scarring, quicker recovery and decreased risk of complications. Drs. Pirrello and Voellinger also perform revision procedures for patients who begin to regain weight after their initial surgery. For additional information about the procedures performed at Presbyterian Bariatric Center, please visit the center’s website.

“The loss of weight and girth has indeed changed my life, and that of my family. I am now the active and agile 64 year old in the family. From playing with the four grandchildren to rebuilding my son's kitchen, bath and exterior I am active. Golf is now a sport, not a chore, and I’m back to enjoying working in the shop and yard, riding my motorcycles and bicycles. None of this would be possible without the surgery, after care and concern of Dr. Pirrello.” Clinton F.
“Dr. Voellinger and his staff are wonderful! He and his team are very committed to ensuring that all of your questions are answered. They take you step by step, giving you all of the details of what to expect before and after surgery. Dr. Voellinger is a very nice and caring man. He is very patient and detailed. I could not have found a better doctor!” K.J.
“After researching many surgical options, I decided that the best surgery for me was to have the Realize™ gastric band. After that decision was made, then came the hardest part, which was finding the best doctor for the job. In all honesty, I scheduled an appointment with a doctor that some of my family members had done their surgeries with. The week before my initial appointment I decided to go with a different doctor. And today, I am so thankful I made that last minute switch. Had I not, I would've never met Dr. Pirrello and his wonderful staff! He bent over backwards and upside down to help get my surgery approved through my insurance. I knew from the moment I heard him talk at a seminar, he was going to be the doctor to do my surgery.” Jennifer B.
“Dr. Voellinger is very straightforward. I liked him from the beginning. His office staff is also very impressive with most having had WLS in the past. There is a wealth of information there, and any and all the staff can answer your questions from their past personal experiences with WLS. The risks of surgery are discussed and [Dr. Voellinger] emphasizes yours based on your medical history. His new office has everything that is needed for your before and aftercare program. One-stop care. Dr. V. is a ‘10’ in my book. His bedside manner is great.” L.S.
