Kelvin Higa, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in bariatric and metabolic surgery and minimally invasive revision procedures. With more than 20 years' experience, Dr. Higa was one of the first surgeons in the Central Valley to perform laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic adjustable gastric band procedure, endoluminal revisional bariatric surgery and single-incision laparoscopic surgery. In addition, he served as President of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and was elected to the National Faculty for Bariatric Surgery by the American College of Surgeons. He currently serves as President of the ASMBS Foundation.

Kelvin Higa, MD, FACS, FASMBS, was born and raised in Southern California. He earned an undergraduate degree at the University of California, Riverside, and a medical degree at the University of California, Los Angeles, David Geffen School of Medicine. Following his general surgery residency, Dr. Higa and his wife, Gloria, decided to make Fresno their home to raise four children three of whom are pursuing medical careers. Having earned the Resident Teacher of the Year award, Dr. Higa has continued balancing private practice with surgical education serving as Chief of Vascular Surgery at the VA Medical Center. He currently holds the position of Clinical Professor of Surgery with the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Higa has served as Chief of Surgery at both Saint Agnes Medical Center and Community Medical Centers, and is currently Director of Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Metabolic Surgery at the Fresno Heart and Surgical Hospital. Dr. Higa serves on the editorial boards of several highly regarded medical publications, including Obesity Surgery and Surgical Obesity and Related Diseases, and has published many articles and book chapters.
Dr. Higa is well-known nationally and internationally; however, when asked about his contributions to society, his response is: "The only legacy I am concerned with is that of a husband and father."
