Watch a Video about the Lap Band System

Ken Hollis, MD, FACS, is a board-certified surgeon who has been performing advanced bariatric procedures for more than 20 years. He is a firm believer in the effectiveness of the advanced Lap Band System and was among the first weight loss surgeons in Texas to utilize this technique in treating obesity. With more than 5,000 bariatric procedures under his belt, Dr. Hollis regularly trains other weight loss surgeons. He has served as the director of the Department of Surgery at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center; Memorial Southeast Hospital; Alvin Medical Center and True Results/Physicians SurgiCenter of Houston.

After years of performing a wide range of weight loss procedures and conducting thorough research in the effectiveness of each, Dr. Hollis and his team at Lap Band Solutions found that the Lap Band System is a clear choice for most patients. He exclusively offers this less invasive, advanced treatment option. During the procedure, a silicone band is placed around the upper stomach to create a much smaller stomach pouch. This leads to restricted food intake and, therefore, effective weight loss for most patients. The Lap Band system is adjustable, which allows for individualized treatment plans and the most effective weight loss results. Lap Band is a laparoscopic procedure, meaning it involves small incisions that reduce postoperative pain, eliminate the need for a hospital stay and encourage a speedy recovery.

To ensure the best possible weight loss results, Dr. Hollis offers the Lap Band Solutions Houston program, a comprehensive weight loss regiment that includes complimentary educational seminars, preoperative and postoperative diet programs and exercise plans uniquely developed to serve each patient’s individual needs. In addition, Lap Band Solutions patients may choose to participate in post-surgery support groups and counseling.

What Do Patients Say About the Lap Band Procedure?

"I felt the gastric bypass was too drastic a surgery, but I knew I needed to do 'something.' When I heard about the LAP-BAND®, I knew immediately it was perfect. I knew that the LAP-BAND® would help me lose weight with reduced food intake without the starvation and depravation. If I got pregnant or got ill, all the fluid could be removed and I could have a temporary 'regular' stomach again. It seemed like a no-brainer!

"Now, three and a half years after LAP-BAND® surgery, I feel like a totally transformed person! The LAP-BAND® changed my life!" —Robin

"I tried every weight-loss program that you can imagine. Each time I would lose weight, but I'd always gain it back – plus more. After years of yo-yo dieting I topped the scales at 304 lbs and had given up on losing weight. Then I learned about the LAP-BAND® System and I knew I had another option. I could have had gastric bypass, but from my nursing experience I saw first- hand the risks associated with it. I knew the LAP-BAND® was the choice for me. Since my surgery I have gone from a size 30 to a size 14. I've lost the weight and I'm keeping it off! I'm in control of my life and I look like a whole new person." —Amanda

"Being large most of my adult life, I had grown comfortable with my size, but as I grew older my body had become a burden. At 345 lbs I had developed Type II diabetes. As a result, I had to take medication four times a day and developed diabetic neuropathy in my fingers and feet. My doctors informed me that I would only be able to sustain any quality of life for the next 8-10 years; all of this due to my weight. My only option was permanent weight loss. The LAP-BAND® is a non-invasive surgery. I experienced dramatic weight loss, had a small recovery time and experienced little discomfort. A year and a half later I went from 345 lbs to 212 lbs, a loss of 133 lbs. I no longer take medication for diabetes and have been completely cured of the disease. Because of my weight loss with the LAP-BAND® I am now able to live life again, instead of just existing. As one of my LAP-BAND® friends said, "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels." —Alan

"I was tired of living life at 292 lbs. I had success with other weight-loss methods, but none of them worked long-term. I have a son whom I did not want to embarrass one day. I wanted to be around to enjoy him growing up, to see him graduate and get married. I wanted to be healthy, and I wanted the woman on the outside to match the one on the inside. As a nurse I researched as much as I could. I loved the fact that the LAP-BAND® was the safest surgery available and that it was adjustable. I have lost 160 lbs since my surgery, and I have to admit... I really love the way I look as well!" —Brooke

"The stigma that comes with being overweight in our society is very sad but very real; I felt that stigma every day. But my self-image wasn't the only thing suffering – so was my health. I was developing high blood pressure, sleep apnea and was practically immobile. I chose the LAP-BAND® System because it was the least invasive surgery and it was a tool that would teach me to eat well and take better care of myself. I needed to lose the weight slowly and learn to make lifestyle changes. I've lost 159 pounds, have no standing health problems and am even training for a marathon. My social life and occupational life have improved and I no longer feel restricted by my weight." —Tess
