Madhu S. Rangraj, MD, FACS and Michael Silberstein, MD, are board-certified surgeons who comprise the medical team of the Surgical Weight Loss Center at Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester, a Center of Excellence as designated by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The team is led by Dr. Rangraj who is among the most experienced bariatric surgeons in the area and a pioneer in laparoscopic bariatric surgery. Dr. Silberstein is a fellowship-trained weight loss surgeon who specializes in laparoscopic and robotic weight loss surgery procedures. Together Drs. Rangraj and Silberstein have successfully performed more than 750 bariatric procedures.
The Surgical Weight Loss Center at Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester offers a comprehensive weight loss program for morbidly obese individuals. Numerous weight loss procedures are available, including Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding with Lap Band and sleeve gastrectomy. In addition, the surgeons offer metabolic surgery for patients with uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes, and pouch banding to address weight gain following gastric bypass surgery. Well-trained in open weight loss surgery, these surgeons use less invasive (laparoscopic) surgery techniques whenever possible. Open surgery requires one long incision, while laparoscopic weight loss surgery involves several small incisions and the use of a tiny camera (laparoscope). Laparoscopic bariatric surgery is associated with less tissue damage, reduced scarring and shorter recovery.
In addition to advanced surgical weight loss procedures, the surgeons of the Surgical Weight Loss Center at Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester provide a comprehensive weight loss surgery program that includes a team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health experts, dietitians, nutritionists, sleep specialists, certified diabetes educators and exercise physiologists.
Designated by the American Society

All procedures are performed at the Sound Shore Medical Center, an accredited, community-based teaching hospital offering primary, acute, emergency and long-term health care to patients throughout southern Westchester.

"My husband and I had lap band surgery at SSMC, and I just had to write to thank your hospital for the wonderful job. Dr. Rangraj... [was] outstanding. Peggy and Judy in the Bariatric Office are angels – so helpful and kind. Hilary, my nurse in recovery was the best thing I could have hoped for post-op. The entire process was great. We were treated well, had a good experience and are very grateful for this life-changing procedure. We travel more than an hour to see our surgeons, but it is well worth it. Thank you again to everyone!" E.V.
