The surgeons of Weight Loss Surgical Center perform Lap Band and Realize Band adjustable gastric banding, an advanced procedure that is the least invasive of all weight loss surgeries. Adjustable gastric banding involves several small incisions and a laparoscope (a small camera), which is used to aid in the placement of the Lap Band or Realize Band device around the stomach. Once placed around the upper portion of the stomach, the band restricts food intake, in turn leading to gradual and consistent weight loss. Adjustable gastric banding is a customized weight loss treatment that can be adjusted to serve the specific needs of each patient. The surgeons of Weight Loss Surgical Center are able to adjust the band periodically by adding or removing saline, which allows them to have full control of their patients' weight loss treatment. The less-invasive nature of the adjustable gastric banding procedure allows most patients to resume many of their normal activities within a few days. One of many benefits of Lap Band or Realize Band surgery is that, although designed to last a lifetime, the device can also be removed, if necessary.
The surgeons and staff of Weight Loss Surgical Center pride themselves on being able to offer each of their patients, including weight loss surgery Des Moines patients and those throughout Missouri and the surrounding area, a comprehensive weight loss program that includes preoperative education and preparations as well as postoperative physical, emotional and nutritional support. Weight Loss Surgical Center practitioners are on call 24/7 to answer any questions, and/or address patient concerns and medical needs.

Weight Loss Surgical Center patients talk
about their weight loss journey
"When I had fallen in the yard and had a hard time getting up, I knew then...I had to do something. I mean, what would happen if I was heavier and I couldn't get up? Who would be there?... I used to weigh 481 pounds, I am currently at 288. And when I think about it, it's like I've lost a whole person...Why didn't I do this sooner?" Kay
"My name is Paula. At my highest weight, I was 275 lbs...For me, being that overweight was just a hindrance to my lifestyle. I like to be active. I like to ride horses. I like to do things...It's not really that I didn't do as many things. I did them. It's just everything was harder...(Now) I get more satisfaction out of the food, and I can eat more normally...get full and I feel satisfied. I'm done when I'm done, and I move on. It's like my brain has reset because my body knows when it's satisfied." Paula
"I struggled with my weight my whole life. I was tired all the time...I didn't realize how bad I felt before because it sneaks up on you. I can't tell you how much better I feel now. I have a lot more energy and I am not taking meds for my blood pressure or heart (problems)...Before my surgery I weighed 320, now I weigh 173..." Wendy
"Now that I've had the surgery, I'm two miles a day on the treadmill. I'm conscious about what I eat because as you start being successful at it, you want to continue being successful. It makes you change your life because you're seeing and feeling results. You just want to keep moving forward. It's a whole new quality of life...I used to be the guy sitting on the bench. Now I'm running around all over the place. Yeah, life is good." Matt
