More About the Bariatric Surgeons at Statewide Bariatrics
Karl Strom, MD, FACS, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont and his master’s degree from Montclair State University. Dr. Strom then went on to earn his medical degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada in the West Indies. He completed his general surgery residency program at Westchester Medical Center at New York Medical College, where he served as chief resident and completed a minimally invasive surgery fellowship. A leader in the field, Dr. Strom regularly teaches other bariatric surgeons the latest techniques and technologies. He has published a number of articles on bariatric surgery and laparoscopic procedures. Dr. Strom is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the American Medical Association and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. In addition, he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Strom has performed over 5,000 bariatric procedures and has been regularly named a “Top Doc” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.
Jonathan Reich, MD, FACS, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his medical degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana in the Dominican Republic. Dr. Reich completed his general surgery residency at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, New Jersey and an advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. His areas of specialty include gastric band, gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and revision bariatric surgery. Dr. Reich has helped over 3,000 weight loss patients achieve happier and healthier lives. He is proud to have been voted “Top Doc” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine and a Bariatric Center for Excellence Surgeon by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. In addition, Dr. Reich is a member of the Medical Society of New Jersey and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Joseph P. Barbalinardo, MD, FACS, is an esteemed surgeon with medical training and experience in bariatric surgery and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. He also has advanced training in procedures such as hiatal hernia repair, colon resection and ventral and inguinal herniorrhaphy. Dr. Barbalinardo has written for various medical and scientific publications. He is a member of the teaching staff at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and has been named a “Top Doc” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.
Robert J. Barbalinardo, MD, FACS, is a board certified general surgeon with specialized training and experience in laparoendoscopic surgery, colorectal surgery and bariatric surgery. Dr. Barbalinardo also possesses advanced training in colonoscopy, proctectomy with total mesorectal excision and other specialized procedures. The surgeon is an assistant clinical professor in the department of surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Barbalinardo has held several administrative positions at Mountainside Hospital, including director of the department of surgery. He has earned several awards and distinctions throughout his career, including being named a “Top Doc” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine every year since 2007, and one of “America’s Top Surgeons” by the Consumers’ Research Council of America.
Silvia Fresco, MD, FACS, received her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and completed her internship and residency training at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Fresco specializes in gastric band, gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Known for her caring and compassionate demeanor, Dr. Fresco has been named a “Top Doc” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine from 2007 to 2014.
Richard Greco, DO, earned his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Greco completed his residency training at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical and Trauma Center in Paterson, where he served as chief surgical resident. He then went on to complete fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center and a surgical internship at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, New York.
Juan Lujan, MD, received his medical degree from the National University of Cuyo in Mendoza, Argentina. He completed his surgical residency at Morristown Medical Center, where he served as chief resident and received the Resident Achievement Award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Lujan recently completed his fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He specializes in a number of procedures including minimally invasive general surgery for hernia, colorectal disorders and gallbladder disease. Dr. Lujan has been published in a number of publications and is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Surgeons.
