The surgeons of Hollywood Bariatrics specialize in laparoscopic, minimally invasive weight loss surgeries that promote quicker recovery and minimize pain, including Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, Lap Band gastric banding and the latest bariatric surgery technique, sleeve gastrectomy, which helps patients prepare for more invasive weight loss procedures.
They also perform ROSE and Stomaphyx – two reversible revision weight loss surgeries that promote minimal recovery periods and eliminate scarring. Performed through the mouth, these procedures take approximately 30 minutes to complete and allow patients to return to their daily activities in one day.
The Hollywood Bariatrics team performs all procedures at Memorial Regional Hospital, which has been named a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, as well as local facilities.
As part of its ongoing commitment to patients, Hollywood Bariatrics offers a comprehensive weight loss program; for those interested, a complimentary educational seminar is available. In addition, they encourage patients to participate in their follow-up programs, which are designed to meet the specific needs of post-bariatric-surgery patients.

"My primary doctor was treating me for chronic asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and spinal problems. I could not bend down to tie my shoes or walk a short distance. I felt sick all the time. I had gastric bypass in 2005 with Dr. Bass. He has become my guardian angel. Everyone in Dr. Bass's office has been wonderful and supportive. The nurses and staff at Memorial Regional Hospital were amazing. They took such good care of me. I felt safe and cared for by everyone involved in this process. Today, I am a 57-year-old woman who weighs 108 pounds. I am active, all my health problems are gone, and I take only vitamins. I can't thank everyone enough for giving me my life back, especially Dr. Bass, who is my walking angel. I pray for him every night to give him the knowledge to keep on helping so many people like me." Carmen, gastric bypass patient
"Weight loss surgery has definitely changed my life. I am a lot happier and can do so much more than I used to. I found love since losing the weight, I am much more active, and I am not self-conscious anymore. Life after surgery is great. I go to the pool and beach a lot now and I go out more often than I used to. I am not shy around new people anymore either. I used to say food was my best friend and I would eat when I was happy, sad, or not even hungry and just for company. Now I eat to survive. Food is not a priority anymore. Overall, Dr. Cohen saved my life and I am very thankful!" Rojenna, gastric bypass patient
"My decision to have this surgery was the first time I put myself first in my life. I never knew who I was: I was always someone's daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, etc. I put everyone first before myself. When I made the decision to take charge of my life and my weight, I never once felt I needed someone's permission. What I gained was a true love for myself: something I thought I had, but in reality, I really did not know how to respect myself and be ok with liking the person I am. I'm a better mother and am proud of the strong role model I am. I not only gained my health, but I gained myself. My dreams are no longer just that, but are now my goals. Not only am I going to be a physical presence in my children's lives, but an active participant!" Cindy, Lap Band patient
